The GHS Anime Club is for anyone who is a fan of Anime movies or Japanese cartoon art and culture. We meet on every Thursdays at noon in the Tech Center to watch the latest Anime titles, draw (arwork), talk, and just hang out. Last year we did a weekend field-trip to Little Tokyo, and we most likely be doing that again this year.
This year we have really grown our Anime and Manga library. Items are available for checkout if you have an Anime Club card and a legal ASB card. See Mr. Massey for details.
What is Anime? Anime (pronounced AH-ne-may) is the Japanese shortened word for 'animation'. Simply put, Anime, is Japanese cartoons. Most of the time, anime comes from Manga - Japanese comics. Occasionally, though, you'll get an anime first, and the Manga will follow... but as a general rule, Anime comes from a popular Manga series.
Manga is sold in anthologies, either weekly or monthly, and have a huge number of readers! In Anime the main characters usually have large doe-like eyes. Many Web sites are devoted to Anime. Anime is quickly becoming the prevalent style in Japanese comic books or manga.
In Japan, the comic book is a popular form of entertainment for adults as well as for younger audiences. Story lines are often very sophisticated and complex and extend into episodic series.
Typical Anime themes or genres include Ninja and other martial arts; the supernatural or horror story; the romance; and science fiction including robots and space ships. Foils for the main characters, including robots, monsters, or just plain bad people, often lack the doe-eyed quality.
This constitution is established and accepted by the undersigned students of Glendora High School in order to promote the awareness of, appreciation of, and enjoyment of the Japanese animation genre known as Anime.
