Neither the school district nor any of its employees are liable for the conduct or safety of any student during the period the student has left the campus. In accordance with Education Code 44808.5, the Governing Board of the Glendora Unified School District has decided to permit students enrolled at Glendora High School to leave the school grounds during the lunch period. Extracurricular and Cocurricular Activities
Glendora High School has one of the most extensive extracurricular and cocurricular activities programs in Southern California.
There are over 40 clubs at GHS. There are service clubs such as Tams, Key Club, Friday Night Live, and Interact, as well as clubs oriented toward academic interests and recognition, 20 sports clubs almost equally distributed between boys and girls sports, and various special interest clubs such as the Gem and Spanish Clubs. In addition, there is a student newspaper, a literary magazine, and student produced yearbook.
Each year there are academic competitions such as Academic Decathlon, Star Wars, Academic Olympiad, Physics Olympics and a science fair.
Glendora's drama, choir, and band, with its auxiliary units, are excellent. They have received numerous awards in competitions and perform regularly for the community. The choir and band have traveled extensively over the years, providing additional recognition for the students. A list of current clubs is available in the office of the assistant principal.
The Peer Assistance/Renaissance program takes great delight in recognizing levels of excellence in all students. Our students represent a diverse collection of talents, personalities, aspirations and skills. In a success oriented school, every student should have the opportunity to receive deserved praise and recognition from both their teachers and peers. Renaissance is the vehicle for continuous recognition. The program recognizes students for everything from improvement to excellence. A focus is also placed on citizenship and its role in developing the total student.
The Leadership program involves over 40 elected and appointed officers, as well as approximately 40 students elected from each second period class to the student senate. Glendora students truly function as a Student Senate with the administration maintaining
its role of guidance and support. There is a student representative on the school board, city council, department chair, and on most school committees.
Participation in cocurricular and extracurricular activities is subject to eligibility requirements set forth in Board Policy 5136. Generally, students must maintain a 2.0 average or above in their total enrolled classes on a 4.0 scale. Some organizations may require a higher GPA. (See Board Policy 5136 and the individual organization's constitution for further details.)
Students are required to attend at least three classes on the day of participation in any extracurricular activity.
