Registration
Course selections made during the registration process are important to the future of each student. These decisions also affect teacher assignments, room allocations, and textbook purchases. Students should consult with their parents, counselors and teachers when selecting their course of study. Parents and students who desire to make changes to the registration forms must notify the counseling department by the last day of summer School, July 26th, 2007. Requests for schedule changes will NOT be honored after the July 26th deadline.
General Registration Guidelines
All seniors will enroll in a minimum of five classes including English, Government and Economics. The Work Experience class does not count as a fifth class.
All juniors will enroll in a minimum of five classes including English, U.S. History and Math. The Work Experience class does not count as a fifth class.
All sophomores will enroll in a minimum of six classes including English, Social Science, Math, and Science.
All freshmen will enroll in a minimum of six classes including English, Social Science, Math, P.E., and Science.
A minimum of three classes must be in the core curriculumn (English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.)
Choose your classes carefully and write your selections on the card provided. Be sure to include at least five alternates. Juniors and seniors must include at least one ROP class as an alternate. Be prepared to accept your alternates if your first choices are not available.
The class selection card is to be filled out, signed by a parent, student, and teachers if required. Registration cards with signatures must be turned in to your English teacher by the date listed below:
Juniors: Tuesday, March 6, 2007
Sophomores: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
Freshmen: Monday, March 26, 2007
Eighth Grade: See special instructions below for incoming ninth graders.
GHS Summer school registration is a separate registration process. Materials will be mailed home in early May.
NOTE: According to school policy, all course requests for the 2007 - 2008 school year will be final as of the last day of Summer School, July 26, 2007. Changes to your registration card must be submitted by this date. No schedule changes will be made at registration in August or after school starts. Schedules received during August registration are final.
The "Summer Letter", mailed to all homes, will indicate the date and time for students to confirm their schedules and pick up books.
Yearly renewal is required for each of the following:
Interdistrict Transfer - Parent must secure a transfer release form the student's residential school district and submit it to the Glendora Unified School District Office. GUSD is willing to assist and offer help needed with this process.
Caregiver - When a student's residential address is the home of an adult other than the parent, the "Caregiver's Authorization Affidavit" form must be signed for each school year.
Residency - An updated "Declaration of Residency" form must be signed and on file at Glendora High School when the parent and student share the home of another person. The parent must also provide current address verifications.
The appropriate form for any of the situations that apply must be on file before the student may be registered for classes by the staff.
Special Instructions For Incoming 9th Grade Students
Your eighth grade teachers will recommend levels of classes for Math, Science and English. NOTE: You must have your teacher's signature on your card for those classes. Final placement in electives will be based on availability.
Final placement in Honors English and Honors World History will be based on the following: Results of an Honors Placement Test and a "B" grade or better in 8th grade English and/or Social Science classes. The Honors Placement Test will be given at Sandburg on May 30th and Goddard on May 31st. Test results will be mailed
Placement in English 1-2 Honors and World History Honors will be based on three multiple measures and graded on the rubric shown below:
A score of 13-15 is required for entrance into English/World History.
A score of 10-12 will require a teacher recommendation of Advance or History CST prior to entrance.
Students entering GHS from a private school will need a score of 8-10 for entrance into English/World History Honors. a score of 6-7 will require a teacher recommendation.
Health/School to Work is a graduation requirement and can be taken in summer school before 9th grade. Students who pre-register for these courese in summer school will not be scheduled in them during the school year. NOTE: A full year (two semesters) of Teen Living or a semester of Personal Growth & Development will also fulfill this requirement.
The class selection card must be returned to your Science/Social Studies teacher by Monday, April 16th.
