East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupation Program
ROP classes are appropriate for all students planning for employment immediately after graduating high school and those preparing for a college education. In most subject areas, advanced placement agreements exist with community colleges in the area.
At Glendora High School one unit of credit will be given for every 16 hours in the ROP Program. Single period classes can earn up to five credits per semester, and two period classes will earn ten credits per semester.
Qualifications for Enrollment
Enrollment in classes is open to Juniors and Seniors. Sophomores meeting the age requirements set forth in the State Education Code and the State Labor Laws may also enroll in these classes.
ROP Class Time Schedule
Off-campus ROP classes are scheduled to meet during the following two sections:
1:00 - 3:00 p.m. (C Section)
3:00 - 5:00 p.m. (D Section)
Transportation to and from the class site will be provided by ROP. Students may drive themselves with proper insurance and permission from their parents.
On-campus ROP classes are one period in length and scheduled during the regular school day. Students may enroll in more than one hour of instruction.
NOTE: A student under 16 years old may enroll in ROP if that student has a career plan with their counselor which shows the class as part of the plan.
ROP Course Offerings On GHS Campus
Business Leadership
A fun, comprehensive course that gives students real world skills and knowledge that can be used in the business world. Each class is a business meeting that will cover such subjects as business ownership and entrepreneurship, sexual harassment in the workplace, business ethics and social responsibility, business etiquette, and more.
Computer Aided Drafting (Meets UC Fine Art Requirement)
The object of this course is to prepare and train students for entry level positions in an architectural or engineering firm. Upon completion of this program, the student should have the necessary entry level skills for a draftsman, designer, CAD operator.
Computer Aided Drafting (Advanced)(Meets UC Fine Art Requirement)
This course is designed to assist students in planning and developing full working drawings for a prospective client. Students will gather information, and comply with design requirements based on city codes and ordinances. An architectural model will be required at the end of the year.
Prerequisite: Student must have one year of CAD. Instructor and counselor approval must be obtained.
Introduction to Forensic Science
This course will introduce students to crime scene investigation, evidence collection and preservation, as well as legal and real life issues from a low enforcement perspective using hands-on, lecture and group activities.
Sports & Entertainment Marketing
Sports and Entertainment Marketing will provide students with an exciting journey through the world of marketing. Students will learn all the foundation skills of marketing and how they relate to the worlds of music, film, amusement parks, sporting events, and more.
Virtual Enterprise
Virtual Enterprise is a simulated businesss that is set up and run by students enrolled in class. this is a highly competitive class and requires fundraising and additional time out of the clssroom.
Prerequisite: Candidates for V.E. must qualify for placement by completing both a business application and job interview prior to placement in the Fall. This is a full year course.

Administration of Justice (C Section)
Students are prepared for basic training in the field of law enforcement as well as being trained for employment as security guards in on-site locations.
Prerequisite: Students cannot have any major arrest record.
Animal Science (C & D Sections)
This course is designed for students to learn responsibility in all areas of animal care. Students are placed in community classrooms housed in pet stores, kennels, grooming facilities, veterinarian offices, and stables.
Apparel Marketing (C & D Sections)
This course trains students for entry-level employment in fashion sales, wardrobe/color coordination, fashion trends, merchandising and marketing, and visual arts.
Construction Trades (C & D Sections)
Gives students employable, entry-level skills as a Construction Trades Helper in the following areas: Carpentry, Plumbing, Remodeling techniques, Electrician, Dry-Wall Applicator, tile Setter, and Painter.
Cosmetology (M-F 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
The 1600 hours of class instruction (required for State license) are designed to qualify the student for the California State Cosmetology Exam. This class is for high school students only.
Prerequisites: State law requires that students be 16 years of age upon entry into class. Students must wear designated uniform.
Dental Assistant (Northwest College; M - Th, 1:30 - 5:00 p.m.)
Students are taught dental assisting techniques, office skills, dental terminology, and oral and tooth anatomy and physiology.
Prerequisites: Uniform and nurse-type shoes required.
Early Childhood Education (C & D Sections)
Students are trained as assistants in infant/toddler programs, preschools, elementary schools, and special education programs.
Prerequisites: Students over 18 mut be fingerprinted, TB test required before 3rd week of class. Appropriate dress code for assigned worksites.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)(C & D Sections - may be taken one or two semesters)
Students who are interested in becoming an ambulance driver, emergency medical technician, or emergency room technician will have an introduction to health team responsibilities.
Prerequisites: Must be 18 years old by the end of the class to take the State certification exam. Book and other fees: $68.00 TB test is mandatory.
Entertainment Academy 5:00 - 10:00 p.m. T, W, Th (plus lab hours as arranged & performances)(Meets UC Fine Arts Requirement)
This course emphasizes the major facets of production including: singing, dancing, and staging.
Prerequisites: An audition and interview with instructor is required. A parent/guardian of each performing student must donate volunteer hours of service to the Academy. Costuming and material fees apply.
Geographic Information Systems GIS (D Section)
This class will assist students in learning how to input, store, analyze, and present geospatial data using GIS hardware and software systems.
Graphic Arts/Silkscreening (C & D Sections)
Students receive instruction in fundamental graphic arts career technical skills. some project may require a materials fee.
Health Careers (C & D Sections)
Students completing this course will acquire competencies needed to sucessfully work at an entry-level position in a community health center or hospital.
Prerequisite: TB test required. Uniform requirement: white pants and white shoes.
Marketing Fundamentals/DECA (D Section)
Students preparing for DECA competitions study marketing concepts, foundations, and principles. Participation in co-curricular activities, community service projects, and competitive events provide opportunities to extend job skills.
Microcomputer Repair and Maintenance A+ Certification Preparation (C & D Sections)
Prepares students to install, program, operate, maintain and service computers. Instruction includes A+ Certification preparation and an introduction to networking (N+).
Prerequisites: Students must have basic keyboard knowledge, computer experience is preferred.
Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) (D Section)
Students cover the prerequisite skills for MOUS Certification testing offered through Microsoft Corporation.
Prerequisites: Students must have basic keyboarding knowledge.
Pre-Engineering and Design (C Section)
This program integrates academic and technical preparation and focuses career awareness, exploration, and preparation in the Engineering and Design pathways.
Retail Sales (C & D Sections)
Students are trained for employment in retail sales occupations such as display, sales clerk, and inventory/warehouse person. this is a one semester course.
Video Technology (C & D Sections) (Meets UC Fine Arts Requirement)
ROP Video Technology is designed to provide students with hands-on training to work in the world of video/television production.
